In Oregon there are multiple levels of nursing education and licensure/certification available:

CNA 1 – Certified Nursing Assistant 1
One term at COCC.
Employed by long term care facilities (nursing homes).
Assist patients in activities of daily living.
CNA 2 – Certified Nursing Assistant 2
Two terms at COCC.
Employed by acute care facilities (hospitals).
Assist patients in activities of daily living; monitor patient vital signs.
LPN – Licensed Practical Nurse
Two to three years at COCC.
Employed by long term care facilities, medical offices, public health departments.
Provide care of stable patients, perform procedures, reinforce patient education.
RN – Registered Nurse, Associate of Applied Science
Three to four years at COCC.
Employed by hospitals, medical offices, long term care facilities, and public
health departments.
Provide patient assessment, patient care, patient education and complete a
variety of treatments and procedures.
RN,BSN – Registered Nurse, Bachelor of Science
A student at COCC may choose from several paths to obtain a Bachelor of Science in Nurising in addition to the Registered license:
Complete RN, AAS at COCC, then complete BSN on-line thru Linfield
College or Oregon Health Sciences University.
or
Complete one year pre-requisites at COCC, then three years at Oregon Health Sciences
University.
or
Complete two years pre-requisites at COCC, then two years at Concordia University,
Linfield College, University of Portland, or Walla Walla College.
RN, BSN graduates are employed by hospitals, medical offices, long term care facilities and public health departments.
RN, BSN graduates provide patient assessment, patient care, patient education and complete a
variety of treatments and procedures; they can progress to nursing administration
and leadership roles. They also have the option of persuing a Master's Degree in Nursing.
